RTA is the initiator and main sponsor of UMii.
With a vision of safe and smooth transport for all, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is responsible for planning and executing transport and traffic projects in Dubai.
The Authority prepares legislation and strategic plans. It develops integrated solutions of road system and marine network that are safe and in line with the city’s economic development plans.
With its six agencies (Marine, Public Transport, Traffic & Roads, Rail, Dubai Taxi & Licensing), RTA supports the Dubai Government in its mission to make Dubai one of the most innovative cities in the world within 3 years.
RTA does not interfere with UMii scientific work undertaken by UITP and FCC, but it has great ambition for its outcome.
UMii should become a unique Forum for cities to exchange knowledge and experiences on Urban Mobility innovation and provide the tool to support the entire public transport industry in its constant quest for innovation and excellence.
UITP has been assigned by RTA to coordinate the development of UMii.
As a passionate champion of sustainable urban mobility, UITP is internationally recognised for its work in advancing the development of this critical policy agenda.
UITP is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes.
The President of UITP identified innovation in urban transport as a priority for his term in office.
UITP’s Mobility in Cities Database constitutes a key reference for UMii, both in terms of selected indicators and adjustment methods.
With its 1400 strong membership, global reach, leading role in transportation innovation and recognized expertise in urban mobility data collection and analysis, UITP is an obvious leader for the first Urban Mobility innovation index.
University of Žilina (UNIZA)
University of Žilina (UNIZA) with its more than sixty-five years of history belongs to one of the leading educational and scientific institutions in Slovakia. Since December 2020, UNIZA has taken the leading role in the research work to deliver the new UMii Report.
In the field of research and innovation (R&I) UNIZA is involved in nearly 200 national and 65 international scientific projects. Achieving the competitiveness objective of the university was accomplished by a gradual implementation of the state-of-the-art equipment of the university and its laboratories through several projects. Two research centres – the University Science Park and the Research Centre were created thanks to these projects. In both centres conditions are created for new business incubators and regional support.
Furthermore, as from 1 July 2019, the Department of International Research Projects – ERAdiate+ has been established as a follow up of the successfully finished FP7 ERA Chair project ERAdiate – Enhancing Research and innovAtion dimension of the University of Zilina in intelligent transport systems. The main objective of ERAdiate+ is to stimulate UNIZA research potential in UNIZA strategic R&I areas including transport and mobility, elevate international competitiveness and increase participation in EU R&I programs.
